Romanian Ties Highlights:
Most parents have vivid memories of bringing home their son or daughter from Bucharest. The stories of that special time seem to come alive for your child as you visit a favorite restaurant or walk down a familiar street. Some families may wish to reconnect with people important in their child’s younger years, like a translator or caregiver. The opportunity to see these individuals again is memorable. If that important person or location is someplace other than where we are visiting, The Ties Program will be happy to help arrange for you to get there.
Our journey extends beyond Bucharest and includes a variety of experiences. While traveling, learn about Romania’s rich history dating back hundreds of years- a history that comes alive in places like Sighisoara, a perfectly preserved medieval town. In Sibiu, witness the diversity of an area where the Saxons and Hungarians settled and melded their traditions. Hear more about Count Dracula, Transylvania’s famous fictional character as well as the area’s most famous citizen, Vlad Þepes. Explore Romania’s natural beauty while hiking in the Carpathian Mountains.
But, Romanian Ties is also about the people your family meets. An impromptu game of kickball or skipping rope with the children we meet while traveling adds a special richness to the journey. We’ll talk to students at a summer camp and learn about family life when visiting a home. You’ll also get to know our Romanian guide as he travels with us throughout the journey. His insight, warmth and knowledge add greatly to the experience. These encounters and others reinforce a sense of pride in the children for their heritage. Plus the friendships that grow between families makes it that much more fun.
Traveling as a family to your child’s country of birth is a life changing experience. It fosters understanding, nurtures pride a nd creates memories.
