Filipino Ties Highlights:

Filipino Ties begins in Manila, a city rich in historical significance and teeming with daily life.  Leaving the city behind, continue the journey to Tagatay.  On the way we'll stop and see how a Jeepney (a uniquely Filipino form of transportation) is made.  As we approach Tagatay, you'll witness the beauty of Lake Taal.  One of the world’s smallest active volcanoes is located on an island in the lake.  A popular place to visit, we'll journey by boat (and then foot) to get a better look Next, travel to Villa Escudero, an active plantation where Filipino culture and history come to The Philippines Ties Tourlife. A wonderful production featuring traditional music and dance awaits you after lunch in a most unusual outdoor restaurant!  Not wanting to spoil the surprise, we'll only share that you'll be dining near Labasin Falls.   Once back in Manila, enjoy an evening with children living at The House of Refuge.  No doubt they will have a few songs to share with us, so you may wish to have a tune or two you can share. Throughout your visit, the hospitality and graciousness of the Filipino people embrace you.

The centerpiece of each family’s journey* will be a visit to your (or your child’s) orphanage. Members of the Intercountry Adoption Board (ICAB) anticipate your visit and look forward to welcoming the children, young adults (and their families) to the county where they were born.  With ICAB's assistance, we will request permission for you to visit your (or your child’s) orphanage, meet caregivers and foster families, and travel to the place of  birth or founding.

The Ties program provides an adoption professional to facilitate optional discussion on all of our programs.  These discussions provide the group with an opportunity to process and understand what they are experiencing and how it relates to adoption.  These discussions and the friendships that are created along the way is what makes this kind of trip truly unforgettable.

"I think that the healthiest outcome of the trip for my daughter is that going with a large group 'normalized' her situation and her adoption story."
      ~ Bonnie MacAdam

"Our visit to Hospicio de San Jose has to top the list.  Our daughter, Erica, 22, spent her first 3-1/2 years of her life there.  We met people who actually remembered her. For Erica, this completed the 'circle.  It filled a large void and answered so many questions she had.  It gave her a real identity.  In her words, 'I now know better who I am'.”
                                                                      ~Steve Bull

"A fabulous way for adoptive families to develop an understanding of the reasons and circumstances that resulted in their becoming a family."
      ~David Johnson

“My ah-ha moment came to me thirteen thousand feet in the air, circling the little islands I had grown to love.  That’s when I realized, my home community is only a small place in the whole world. It’s only a little bubble in a sea of cultures, ideas, traditions, climates, and people. I understand now that the world is a lot bigger than your home, your friends, and your town.  I am only one person, and my town is only one place.  But one thing stays the same. In all places, cultures, and countries there are people who are trying to lead decent lives. The world is becoming a lot more connected, and my eyes have been opened to the wonder of Earth’s global family.”
                                                              ~Hannah Kinzer, 14

"Your sensitivity to the needs of the children was so evident throughout the trip.  Tina came away with such a warm feeling for her heritage and a special bond with the kids who traveled with us."
        ~Nan Gray

The trip far exceeded our expectations. We are missing our new friends, the daily adventures, the food, the culture and The Philippines in general.   There aren't enough words to describe how spectacular the trip was.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  ~Kathy McCarraher

“I got to see that my birth place is good and better understood the struggles my birth family went through.”
      ~Matt Ouellette, 14

“As a grandma, it was so great to see the full circle of adoption.”
        ~Barb Boersma (Grandma)
