KAZAKHSTAN TIES
July 6-17, 2012
Kazakhstan Ties families begin in Almaty. We’ll spend time there, visiting the Almaty Cathedral and riding the gondola up Koktobe Mountain. We’ll also visit the SOS Children’s Village (permission pending), and have a unique evening visiting with host families in their homes. Yes, we’ll do some shopping too! And eat scrumptious Kazakh food. From Almaty, we’ll spend a day in the Tyan Shan Mountains, taking in the spectacular scenery Kazakhstan is known for.
After a few days together as a group, each Ties family will have the opportunity to visit places of importance to their family. The Ties Program staff will assist in obtaining approval to visit orphanages, request permission to meet foster families and orphanage caretakers, and coordinate visits to places of founding. Birth family search may be possible as well. Families will travel with an English speaking guide to assist and personalize the visits.
We’ll rendezvous in the futuristic city of Astana, giving us time to reconnect, and begin to process the experiences of the past few days. Astana is unlike any city in the world—we’ll have a blast in what has become known as Kazakhstan’s “Star War Movie Set.” We’ll end our time at spectacular Borovoe National Park, where we have a special evening of “Legends and Fairy Tales.”

We will also take time throughout Kazakhstan Ties to gather the kids for optional “Connect & Chat” and the adults for "Talk Times" giving us all a chance to process the amazing experiences in Kazakhstan. Our journey will leave us awed by Kazakhstan and its people—truly rich in beauty, warmth and humor. We hope that your participation in our program creates a family memory that, like your family ties, will last a lifetime.
