BULGARIAN TIES

July 19-August 1, 2012

Bulgarian Ties families begin in Sofia. There, we’ll spend time visiting the sites of Sofia, including nearby Rila Monastery. We’ll also visit the SOS Children’s Village (permission pending) and have a unique evening visiting with host families in their homes. Yes, we’ll do some shopping too! And eat scrumptious Bulgarian food.  Leaving Sofia, we will travel to the Balkan Mountain Villages and medieval Veliko Tarnovo

After a few days together as a group, each Ties family will have the opportunity to visit places of importance to their family's adoption.  The Ties Program staff will assist in obtaining approval to visit orphanages, and request permission to meet foster families and orphanage caretakers. Birth family searches, while unlikely, may be possible as well. Families will travel with an English speaking guide to assist and personalize the visits.

We’ll rendezvous in Varna, on the Black Sea, giving us time to reconnect, and begin to process the experiences of the past few days. Varna will be an R & R stop for us, with an option of visiting the amazing Stone Forest nearby. On our return to Sofia, we’ll overnight in Plovdiv. Many people say it is the most beautiful town in Bulgaria. Once back in Sofia, we will have free time to savor the final day, and gather for farewell dinner.

We will also take time throughout Bulgarian Ties to gather the kids for optional “Connect & Chat” and the adults for "Talk Times" giving us all a chance to connect and think through the amazing experiences in Bulgaria.

Our journey will leave us awed by Bulgaria and its people—truly rich in beauty, warmth and humor.  We hope that your participation in our program creates a family memory that, like your family ties, will last a lifetime.  It is with great pride that we present Bulgarian Ties 2012!
